The Society for Promotion of Science and Technology in India (SPSTI) deeply mourns the passing away of eminent Metallurgist and Nuclear Scientist, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee, the former Chairperson Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and Director, BARC. The SPSTI had enjoyed association with Dr. Banerjee ever since its establishment in 2009, the birth centenary year of legendary Dr. Homi Bhabha. Dr. S Banerjee had succeeded Dr. Anil Kakodkar as Chairperson, AEC on December 2, 2009, and both the Chairpersons had visited Kurukshetra University together in January, 2010 to address the School and College students from all over Haryana in the specially convened Bhabha Centenary Symposium organized by the Haryana Government Council for Science and Technology and SPSTI. The President and Secretary of SPSTI maintained close contact with Dr. S Banerjee to promote the science outreach activities of the Society since then. The entire Executive Committee of SPSTI is saddened by the passing away of Dr. S Banerjee. The Society proposes to organize an Online meeting to enable civic society to pay tributes to him in due course.
