Environment Day2021-05-16T16:11:08+05:30

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 05 every year since 1974. The day was instituted in 1972 on the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1974 on the theme “Only One Earth”.  Since 1987, the centre of the activities was selected on rotation and different countries started hosting the day. The day is celebrated as a key tool to encourage awareness for the protection of our environment.

Society for Promotion of Science & Technology in India (SPSTI) engages students, teachers and general public through lectures, poster-competitions, quiz contests, tree plantation drives to encourage awareness and act to protect the environment.

World Environment Day Theme 2021 – Ecosystem Restoration

An Ecosystem is a geographical, structural and functional area where plants, animals, humans, other living organisms, weather and landscape together work to form a bubble of life. All are only as healthy as the ecosystem they live in. It is beneficial for the society, biodiversity and the planet to identify and restore the ecosystems that have been degraded due to any reason. The techniques may include planting trees, recover ponds, cleaning of rivers, recycling of waste, and giving space to nature to recover itself. The theme of the World Environment Day 2021 for the year 2021 calls citizens to act on restoring the ecosystem.
