First World Health Assembly
World Health Day is celebrated every year on April 07, sponsored by World Health Organization.
The first health assembly of WHO was held in the year 1948 at Geneva, Switzerland on April 07. It was attended by all the member states except two. The assembly was held after two months, the WHO was founded. It was decided to celebrate the World Health Day to create awareness about a particular theme to highlight a priority area of concern in health.
World Health Day 2020
The World Health Day 2020 is decided to commemorate the contribution of nurses and midwives in health care services. Midwives play a vital role in caring for mothers and children all over the world.
According to WHO, all over the world, around 28 million nursing workforce is there out if which 19 million are professionals. World need 9 million more nurses and midwives by 2030 to achieve universal health coverage.
The Word Health Assembly has designated the year 2020 as International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.
As the world is suffering from the Pandemic COVID-19, the sacrifices of the health care workers cannot be ignored.
