Students in higher secondary are appearing in their board examinations all over India. A total of 12,06,893 students are appearing for CBSE examinations in 12th class, lakhs more in State Boards. These are an interface to the world of higher education. Hundreds of options are available in degree, diploma and certificate courses for the students who pass this threshold.

Apart from IITs, NITs, Central Universities, etc, IISERs are a very good option for the students to pursue five-year integrated courses.

All IISERs in India admit students through a common application process.

Foreign candidates are eligible through JEE-Advance mode only.

Channels available for Admission to IISERs

There are three channels available for admission into IISERs:

KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana): This is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India which is aimed at motivating students to pursue their research career in basic sciences. IIT-JEE (Advanced): Joint Entrance Examination is an engineering entrance examination conducted for admission to various engineering colleges in India. It is constituted with two different examinations – JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Click here to see important dates of JEE Advanced.

SCB (State and Central Boards): The students who passed 10+2 with science stream in 2019 or 2020 are eligible to apply and appear for IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) – 2020 that will be held on 31 May 2020. However, they will be considered for admissions to the degree programs only if they obtain the cut-off marks specified for their board. The applications for SCB will start on 23 March 2020. The candidates would not have to wait for the result of 12th class to apply through SCB.
