In its series of conducting the lectures on International Year of Period Table (IYPT-2019), SPSTI organized another lecture on Fascinating World of Periodic Table” delivered by Prof. A.K. Srivastava of Panjab University. Around 130 students of classes 9th & 11th including faculty members attended tia interesting lecture. Prof. Srivastava explained how Dimitri Mendeleev, a Russian Chemist, arranged elements in rows and columns according to their increasing atomic weights to construct this interesting table. Mendeleev’s genius was in what he left out of his table. He recognized that certain elements were missing, yet to be discovered. So where Dalton, Newlands, and others had laid out what was known, Mendeleev left space for the unknown. Amazingly, he accurately predicted the properties of the missing elements.
