REGULAR ACTIVITIES/ PROGRAMS

SUMMER SCHOOLS IN SCIENCE & MATHEMATICS (प्रेरणा)

During summer vacations, the utilization of physical infrastructure of educational institutions is the lowest. At the same time, there are a few crores of college and university students, who do not indulge in any meaningful activity during summer vacations. There are also a very large number of school going students, who also don’t do anything worthwhile during this period.

Teaching of school children by enthusiastic and bright students of IITs, NITs, IISERs, Central Universities and other institutes of repute is one of the best models for utilization of human and physical resources of country. SPSTI decided to make a modest intervention by holding a summer school of four weeks’ duration in science and mathematics for girl students of poor families at Kurukshetra. The first summer school was held in June 2011. More than 50 girls attended the School. With passage of time, Summer Schools were held at a larger number of locations and from 2016 onwards the residential schools were converted into day schooling.

Till 2019, 55 such summer schools have been organized. During the year 2019, 15 summer schools were organized, thirteen in Haryana, one in Punjab and one in Himachal Pradesh. The Summer Schools were supported by Department of School Education, Government of Haryana, Intel Corporation, ISGEC Heavy Engineering Ltd, Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

It was launched on April 06, 2016 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana from Karnal. The mobile lab focuses on experiment-based learning and hands on experience, relate science to daily life and how it influences our lives. It helps demystifying Science.

The Project is supported by National Council for Science & Technology Communication, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India to operate in districts Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat and Yamunanagar. Till date, the lab has visited to more than 400 schools and interacted with about 75,000 students.
