Science Club GNDU under its MoU with Society for Promotion of Science and Technology in India (SPSTI) has launched a science exhibition bus “Vigyan Safari” for promotion of science among school students of Punjab. The inauguration ceremony of the same took place on March 1, 2021 at Khalsa College Public School, GT Road, Amritsar. The inauguration ceremony began with lamp lightening accompanied by a warm welcome note by Dr. Bindiya Arora, Convenor of SciRox. The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, Commission of Police, Amritsar as the
Chief guest. While addressing the audience, Dr. Gill emphasized on the need of the recent changes that have been made in the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy and the New Education Policy. This was followed up by an address by Guest of Honour S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna, Pro Chancellor, Khalsa University who appreciated the efforts being taken in the
direction of promotion of science and also highlighted the need of more such initiatives in schools and colleges. Prof. A. K. Grover, ex vice Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh uplifted the spirits of audience by a pre recorded message in which he emphasised the role of University and higher education institutes in promotion of science among school children. Prof. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs GNDU stated that we are just a tiny spec of dust in this vast universe and more such efforts should be made to understand the importance of science in each and every field. Prof. Arvind, Former Director IISER Mohali was also present at the event. He commented on the eternal vastness of science and how one can never have a hold of all the science involved in our
universe by reading any book. S. Amarjit Singh Gill, Principal Khalsa College Public School also highlighted how the school is contributing in an effort to cater a sense of curiosity amongst its
students. After this, Prof. Keya Dharamvir, General Secretary of SPSTI shared the other initiatives that are being taken by SPSTI in the regime of science communication and later enthralled the audience with an inquisitive science magic show. Meanwhile, students from the school and
university presented numerous scientific demonstrations in the hall. The inauguration ceremony conclude with a formal thank you note by Dr. Bindiya Arora. Dr. Arora thanked the dignitaries
present there along with the entire organisation team. “Vigyan Safari is an attempt to generate curiosity among school children and motivate them to build a successful career in science. As a
part of this mission, the exhibition bus will visit different schools of Amritsar on a regular basis”, said Dr. Arora.
