The Society organized the lecture on “Periodic Table – An Overview of Evolution over the Years” on Zoom Platform. The Speaker was Prof. Alok Srivastava, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University. Prof. Keya Dharamvir, General Secretary of the Society hosted the lecture. More than 120 students attended this lecture. There was a healthy Question-Answer Session of 45 minutes after the lecture. The lecture was supported by Department of Science & Technology, Chandigarh Administration to commemorate the International Year of Periodic Table (IYPT-2019)
A brief Abstract of the Lecture:
The Russian Chemist Mendeleev is regarded as the originator of the Periodic Table idea which was introduced to the world nearly 150 years ago.
Over the years the Periodic Table has undergone a number of transformations not only to accommodate elements which were not known to mankind during the time of Mendeleev but also to accommodate new chemical concepts which were introduced in later years.
The presentation will first delve upon historical events which culminated in the introduction of the periodic table concept. This will then be followed by introduction to events which took place in subsequent years resulting in the creation of the present form of the Periodic Table.
